Fresh caulk around shower tile — Lynch Bros. Tile & Grout

Re-caulking

Old, cracked, or moldy caulk is one of the most common sources of water damage in bathrooms and kitchens. We remove it completely and replace it with a clean, watertight seal.

Caulk is the flexible sealant that fills the joints between your tile and fixtures — around the tub, along the base of the shower, at the countertop edge, and where walls meet floors. It flexes with the natural movement of your home. Over time it cracks, shrinks, and grows mold. When it fails, water gets behind your tile and into the wall — causing damage that's expensive to fix.

Complete removal is essential

Caulking over old caulk is a common DIY mistake. The new caulk won't bond properly to the old surface, and any mold underneath will continue to grow. We remove every trace of the old caulk using hand tools and chemical removers, then clean and dry the surface thoroughly before applying anything new.

Mold-resistant caulk

We use professional-grade silicone or siliconized latex caulk with built-in mold and mildew inhibitors. This is significantly more durable than the caulk available at hardware stores, and it maintains its flexibility and adhesion much longer in the wet environment of a bathroom.

Where we caulk

We re-caulk tub surrounds, shower bases and walls, countertop edges, sink perimeters, floor-to-wall transitions, and any other tile joint that requires a flexible seal. If you're not sure whether a joint needs caulk or grout, we'll assess it and explain the difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often does caulk need to be replaced?
In a shower or tub surround, every 3–5 years is typical. If you see cracking, separation, discoloration, or black mold spots, it's time regardless of age.
Can't I just caulk over the old caulk myself?
You can, but it won't last. New caulk over old caulk doesn't bond well and will fail faster. And if there's mold underneath, you're sealing it in rather than removing it.
How long before I can use the shower after re-caulking?
Silicone caulk needs 24 hours to cure fully before getting wet. We'll give you the exact time based on the product we use.
Do you match the caulk color to my tile?
Yes. We carry a range of standard caulk colors and will match as closely as possible to your existing tile and grout.
